BTR Barefoot Run: Harlem to Brooklyn, 2010 Aug 11

by Christopher on August 4, 2010

Out of the blue a couple of weeks ago, I heard from John Durant. You probably know him from the Colbert Report, or the New York Times profile of his urban-paleo adventures. We got to talking, and suddenly this is happening. I’ll update soon with more backstory and details, but for now, here’s what’s going down:

Description

Join Christopher McDougall, author of “Born to Run,” and John Durant, founder of Barefoot Runners NYC, in an epic barefoot run from Harlem to Brooklyn. Run barefoot, near-barefoot, or fully shod but barefoot curious. Rediscover the fun of running barefoot, and tap into the natural quickness and strength buried in your soles. We’ll party in the park before and after, and every step of the way. The full run is 8 miles, but feel free to join for any part of the run — see course map for meeting points.

Book Signing

Chris will be giving a book talk at Word Bookstore, just near the finish, at 7:30pm. The cost is $25 (and includes the book), but there is no obligation for runners to attend.

Mommy Finishes another Triathlon

Thursday morning we drove for hours across the desert – well, I didn’t drive, Cathy and Ken took turns. I sat in the back seat looking cute.   Arrived the hotel, Loews.  before entered the hotel, Ken and Cathy scolded me about my behavior because I tend  barking at strangers.    A lot of strangers looked at me….  At the room, Cathy showed me to look the window.  I looked down to see strangers, cars, etc…. at lobby doors all night. I behaved good all day, the first day there.

This morning Cathy and Ken woke up early, and Cathy jumped in the water with 800 other women, to start the IronGirl Lake Las Vegas triathlon.

Cathy is the swimmer in the water with the pink swimming cap (see pictures below).

When she finished swimming, Cathy hopped on her bicycle and rode 30 kilometers. The start was tough, as it went up a steep hill. We didn’t see her start on her bicycle. We went a bit less than a mile before the finish to watch for Cathy. I got bored waiting, so I barked at another dog, then I barked at lifequa Then I heard Cathy yelling, “Herman!” I wanted to run with her, but Ken would not let me.

Then we walked up the hill to watch the run. We waited a while, then I saw Cathy high-fiving her friend. Ken had the telephoto zoomed in, so he could see it was Cathy from a long distance. And a few minutes later, we ran out to greet her. But she still had another half-mile or more to finish. So we ran down the hill following her and Ken shot some more video and pictures.
